Captain BK Tyagi- New CMD of The Shipping Corporation of India

The proposal to name Captain Binesh Kumar Tyagi as the new chairman and managing director of Shipping Corporation of India Ltd. has received approval from the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) (SCI).

According to an official order released by the Department of Personnel and Training on Thursday, the appointment is for five years starting from the date of assumption of charge of the post, or until the date of his superannuation, or until further orders, whichever is the earlier.

After evaluating three candidates on February 4 of this year, the Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB), the government’s headhunter, chose Captain B K Tyagi to be the next CMD of SCI.

The government is now in the process of privatizing SCI, and Captain Tyagi is currently the director overseeing the liner and passenger services sector.

Following his graduation from Meerut University, Captain Tyagi joined SCI as a trainee naval officer in 1990 and served on a number of ships in a variety of positions, including master’s. He arrived on land in 2004 and worked in the fleet personnel, technical, vetting, and chartering divisions.

Since June 1st of this year, The Shipping Corporation of India has been operating without a full-time chairman and managing director.  Atul Ubale, the Director overseeing the Bulk Carriers and Tankers business of Shipping Corporation of India, was given the additional charge to serve as the chairman and managing director of the national flag carrier for three months.
