IRS expands footprint in SE Asia

The Philippines’ maritime flag authority and India’s leading classification society, the Indian Register of Shipping (IRS), have inked a Recognized Organization (RO) agreement. An important component of IRS’s plan to increase its footprint globally is to request RO status from significant marine flags. The establishment of a Manila office will be followed by the later deployment of a surveyor.

The IRS has recognised the Asia Pacific region as a priority area for expansion, and throughout time, the classification organisation has increased its presence in South-East Asia. Several maritime flag administrations in SE Asia, including Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, and Myanmar, had already authorised it as a Recognized Organization.

Mr. Vijay Arora, Managing Director at IRS, said “We thank the Philippines maritime flag administration and acknowledge that this authorisation comes with the responsibility to uphold the industry-leading standards of safety and compliance, which has become synonymous with IRS around the globe.”

This acknowledgement from the maritime flag authority of the Philippines confirms our technical proficiency and capacity as a significant classification society. We are also pleased to offer technical advice and trainings to the flag administration when needed.
