Red Sea Under Fire: Houthis Escalate Attacks on Global Shipping

Red Sea
The Houthis have intensified their assaults on vessels in the Red Sea, targeting ships despite earlier claims of a pause in hostilities. Recent attacks include missile strikes on the Greek-owned tanker Blue Lagoon I and a drone strike on the Saudi tanker Amjad. The escalation underscores the growing maritime threats in the region.
In a sharp escalation of maritime tensions, the Houthis have launched multiple attacks on vessels in the Red Sea, despite denying Iran’s statement about pausing to salvage the burning Greek tanker Sounion. Their latest targets include the Greek-owned shuttle tanker Blue Lagoon I, hit by missiles while carrying Russian cargo, and a Saudi tanker Amjad, struck by a drone. The Houthis also resumed assaults on the Greek-managed containership Groton, further intensifying the threat to maritime operations in the region. Meanwhile, U.S. Central Command has intercepted several aerial and surface threats as part of the ongoing conflict.
