South Korea,
South Korean shipping giant HMM has unveiled a strategic roadmap aimed at becoming a global leader in green shipping and logistics. As part of its mid-to-long-term strategy, the carrier plans to invest KRW 14.4 trillion, with over 60% of this allocated to sustainable management initiatives. This includes expanding its fleet with low-carbon ships and green infrastructure to meet global environmental regulations and accelerate its net-zero carbon emissions target by 2045.
HMM will inject KRW 11 trillion to secure a fleet of 130 vessels, totaling 1.55 million TEU, to strengthen its core business and respond to the shifting landscape of global shipping alliances. Additionally, the company plans to invest KRW 1.7 trillion in container boxes to boost operational efficiency.
In the bulk transportation sector, HMM will allocate KRW 5.6 trillion to expand its fleet from 36 to 110 vessels, positioning itself across a balanced portfolio in both the tanker and dry bulk markets.
To bolster its logistics infrastructure, HMM will invest KRW 4.2 trillion in terminal expansions and acquisitions, alongside advancing its integrated logistics business to provide seamless, end-to-end services.
With an eye on net-zero emissions by 2045, HMM will also dedicate KRW 1 trillion to retrofitting ship engines, securing green fuel supplies, and enhancing operational efficiency through digitalization.
