Sonowal Dedicates Tuticorin International Container Terminal, Boosting India’s Maritime and Green Energy Initiatives

Union Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways, Shri Sarbananda Sonowal, inaugurated the Tuticorin International Container Terminal (TICT) at V.O. Chidambaranar Port, Tamil Nadu. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, addressing the event virtually, hailed the terminal as a milestone in India’s maritime infrastructure, emphasizing its role in reducing logistics costs and boosting trade efficiency. The new terminal, with a capacity of 6 lakh TEUs annually, was developed with an investment of ₹434 crore.
Sonowal also launched several green initiatives, including a Green Hydrogen Project and a 400 kW Rooftop Solar Power Plant, marking significant steps toward India’s renewable energy goals. The event featured the signing of land lease agreements for new ventures, including partnerships in renewable energy, further expanding VOCPA’s industrial landscape. The Minister also flagged off the maiden container vessel from the terminal, marking the operational launch of this major infrastructure project.
