Quad Leaders Commit to Strengthening Maritime Security, Launch New Initiatives for Indo-Pacific Stability

At the fourth in-person Quad Leaders Summit in Wilmington, Delaware, leaders from Australia, India, Japan, and the United States reaffirmed their commitment to a free and open Indo-Pacific. Culminating in the “Wilmington Declaration,” the summit introduced initiatives like the Indo-Pacific Partnership for Maritime Domain Awareness (IPMDA) and the Maritime Initiative for Training in the Indo-Pacific (MAITRI) to boost maritime security and regional cooperation. The Quad also emphasized ASEAN’s role, climate action, and support for UN reforms.

Key takeaways included new legal frameworks to uphold maritime law, a “Quad-at-Sea” mission in 2025, and a focus on climate resilience.
