South Korea’s HD Hyundai, in collaboration with ABS, is advancing the use of autonomous technology and AI to enhance the safety of ammonia-fueled ships. The shipbuilder has introduced the “Unmanned Engine Room” concept, reducing crew exposure to ammonia’s toxicity. The centralized control station, remotely operated and capable of automated corrective actions, ensures safer ship operations. Additionally, the AI Ammonia Safety Package integrates advanced monitoring and safety management systems.
ABS awarded approval for Hyundai’s autonomous technologies at the Gastech 2024 conference, marking a significant step towards safer ammonia-fueled shipping operations.
